The most loved and respected friend of yours has sent the indecent message.You are deveasted, because you don't know how to react ?It's not end here, your personal message and very own personal pics finds place in all your contacts personal message box on WhatsApp.What's this, your best friend is in big trouble and begging for money, you don't know what to do?It's mere beginning, now nothing is in your hand, all your secrets, private message, pics, data even your sms and calls are being, read and heard by someone else.It's very common now these days. I have been warning about your phone being hacked through your Whatsapp.Recently, Delhi Police has busted a gang of such hackers. A syndicate that was hacking into mobile devices and WhatsApp accounts of people using custom-made malware has been busted by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Op (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police.The mastermind of the syndicate, had recently hacked the WhatsApp account of a senior bureaucrat following which a full-fledged investigation was launched.The mastermind of the module, was identified as Chimelum Emmanuel Aniwetalu alias Maurice from Nigeria.The syndicate used to send malware through WhatsApp and thereby accessing call logs, SMSs and contacts and control of the targeted WhatsApp account.After hacking the account, they would pose as the original WhatsApp account holder and communicate with the contact list thereby further hacking into more contacts.The gang not only blackmailed the victims using their WhatsApp chat content but also made distress calls to demand money on various pretexts from their contacts. The syndicate had been operating from Delhi and Bangalore.The accused had also provided a bank account to the contacts of the complainant for transferring the money.The modus operandi of the gang was to design and spread various malware links. The accused had used to send specially-designed malware disguised as application to the victim’s devices.The accused will create a dedicated application for each victim which when downloaded and installed on the victim’s phone, sent contacts, call logs and SMSs on the accused’s server.During interrogation and forensic analysis of the devices, it was revealed that the accused had various modus operandi — most prominent of them being impersonating a girl and befriending men on various social media profiles.Once they had established trust, the gang would then send a link to let him or her join a group of like-minded friends.Once the person clicked on that link, he or she would lose the control over their social media profiles. Thereafter, the gang used to operate the social media accounts to make money.Mastermind Maurice, has also befriended elderly men by posing as women from foreign countries.Once again, I appeal to you all to remain cautious while communicating on social media and avoid clicking on any random web link or URL sent on any social media platform.Dr Ajay Kummar Pandey,Advocate, Supreme Court of India2870
